When Your best friend laughs in your face

headshotgravatar“Better are the wounds of a friend, than the deceitful kisses of an enemy.” Proverbs 27:6

Do you have a friend who knows you better than you know yourself? And loves you anyway? Who would rush to your aid at 2 AM if your car broke down? And you would rush to their aid, too? I am so blessed and my best friend is Angela, that angel with a mischievous streak. Her phone went off one time when she was working as the church secretary and the ringtone was “‘My humps, my humps, my lovely lady lumps.”

SO I was thinking of moving to this lovely retirement village on the banks of the Suwanee River, all peaceful live oaks with Spanish moss waving gently in the breeze. Maybe I’d start an art class, maybe I’d spend my days fishing for catfish…

“Hey Ang, what do you think about me at Advent Village?”

“You’d be great-what position?”

“No, not a job-to live there.”

“You can’t do that. You’re not OLD!”

“I’m old enough to get in.”

“My God that’s funny. What are you thinking?

“You think I wouldn’t fit in? Mica said I wouldn’t fit in.”

“Mica’s right! Oh my God, I’m laughing so hard.”

I felt a bit sad. They won’t like me. There goes my art class and cat fishing; the wounds of a friend…

“Come up here to the mountains. Artists, writers, free spirits. You’ll love it.”

“Find me a cheap place to stay? Real cheap?”

“O.K. I’ll look.”

“Any cute guys?”

“I saw a couple of cute guys at the play last week.”

“Hook me up.” I meant of course with the rent, not the guys. 🙂
